Glasgow's Hidden West End

Ashton Lane
If you are coming to Glasgow's West End to enjoy the array of shops, restaurants and bars, don't be shy about venturing off the beaten track. While Byres Road is buzzing day and night, many of the small lanes tucked away hold delights for the inquisitive visitor.

Ashton Lane is by far the most popular of the Byres Road's 'off-shoots'. Boasting an array of award-wining restaurants, cafe bars as well as a cinema, Ashton Lane has something for everyone.

The Wee Pub
By day is hums to the sound of lunches and coffees and by night it throngs to the sound of wine, shots and party music.

Located in a collection of old stables from the days when Glasgow's streets were filled with horses and carts, many of the establishments in Ashton Lane have original features - check out the flooring in Brel and 'The Chip'.

Be sure you don't miss Ashton Lane when in the West End - it is situated down a small, cobbled lane next the Hillhead Subway Station. You might even want to try a quick tipple in the appropriately named 'Wee Pub', but it's probably best not to head in here with lots of shopping bags or luggage as you might manage to squeeze between the front door and the bar! Like I say, it is appropriately named.
